About Us
Dalan Fund resources intersectional social justice movements in Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central and North Asia. We were established in 2023 and currently operate as a fully remote, decentralized team working across multiple time zones. Dalan Fund is fiscally hosted by Women Win and is preparing to become an independent organization registered in Spain from 2027.
About the Role
You will lead and coordinate Dalan Fund’s finance work at a critical moment in the Fund’s development. This is not only a day-to-day finance management role. You will also help us set up the financial, administrative, and compliance systems required for Dalan Fund to operate independently in Spain.
You will work closely with the Deputy Director, external accountant, Finance & Admin Coordinator, advisors, auditors, and other team members. You need to be comfortable working independently, making sound judgments, asking the right questions, and following through reliably.
This role may be for you if you have solid financial judgment, strong practical experience, and the confidence to take responsibility for complex finance work in an evolving organization. You should be able to see what needs to be done, structure the work, flag risks early, and know when specialist advice is needed.
What Is Specific to Dalan Fund’s Current Stage
You will support Dalan Fund’s transition from fiscal hosting to becoming an independent organization registered in Spain. As part of this, you will:
- help build the financial, administrative, and compliance systems needed for independent operations,
- develop and improve internal finance workflows, tools, guidelines, and controls that work for a small, remote, growing organization,
- support compliance with Spanish legal, fiscal, and foundation requirements, including statutory documentation, annual accounts, annual plans, and audit preparation,
- coordinate with the external accountants, auditors, banks, notaries, and public authorities where needed,
- support the financial and administrative aspects of Board-related processes, governance documentation, and institutional record-keeping,
- help the team understand financial risks, constraints, and implications during this period of organizational development,
- work with external experts where specialized knowledge of Spanish nonprofit or foundation requirements is needed.
Core Finance Management Responsibilities
In your day-to-day work, you will coordinate financial operations, including accounting, documentation, banking, cash flow, and financial tracking. As part of this work, you will:
- maintain accurate internal financial records and follow up on accounting entries, balances, discrepancies, and corrections,
- support budgeting, financial reporting, internal planning, and financial monitoring,
- manage cash flow and liquidity planning across operations and grantmaking,
- track grant budgets, spending, documentation, donor restrictions, reporting deadlines, and compliance requirements,
- prepare financial reports for funders, including budget-versus-actual analysis and grant-level financial information,
- support payroll processes for team members in Spain and maintain payroll tracking for team members outside Spain,
- supervise and coordinate the work of the external accountant and Finance & Admin Coordinator,
- explain financial information clearly to colleagues who may not have a finance background.
What We Need You to Bring
〰️ At least five years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, administration, operations, grants management, or a related area.
〰️ At least two years of experience in a finance management or comparable role.
〰️ Strong knowledge of accounting, budgeting, financial management, and internal controls.
〰️ The ability to understand and apply Spanish legal, fiscal, and compliance requirements, including by working with external advisors where needed.
〰️ Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with budgets, spreadsheets, financial tracking tools, and accounting information.
〰️ Experience with accounting software or financial management systems.
〰️ Fluency in English and Spanish.
〰️ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
〰️ The ability to manage several deadlines and priorities under pressure.
〰️ A high level of integrity, accountability, discretion, and care with confidential information.
〰️ Openness to learning and adapting in a growing organization.
〰️ Commitment to the mission, principles, and values of Dalan Fund.
What We Would Also Value
〰️ Experience in nonprofit organizations, foundations, feminist funds, social justice organizations, grantmaking institutions, or movement-supporting organizations.
〰️ Knowledge of Spanish foundation law, including Ley de Fundaciones and foundation reporting requirements.
〰️ Experience with organizational registration, institutional set-up, compliance processes, or financial systems development.
〰️ Good understanding of donor funding, multi-currency grant tracking, restricted funding, and financial reporting.
〰️ Experience with treasury, currency management, investment policy, or financial risk management.
〰️ Experience working in a remote, international, or multi-time-zone team.
〰️ Experience supervising accountants, finance staff, consultants, or administrative colleagues.
We know that strong candidates may come from different professional backgrounds. Experience in the nonprofit sector is useful, but it is not the only path into this role. If you bring strong financial skills, good judgment, and the ability to learn quickly, initial gaps in knowledge of the Spanish nonprofit or foundation sector can be bridged through external advice, consulting, and on-the-job learning.
